Ted Vives

After completing his academic journey, Ted Vives became Musical and Artistic Director of the Los Alamos Community Winds. Under his leadership, this adult community wind ensemble achieved remarkable success, consistently placing as a finalist for the American Prize, Community Wind Ensemble Division, including a notable first runner-up position in 2012. His compositions, characterized by their innovation and technical mastery, have been performed worldwide, earning him accolades such as the North Cheshire 2003 Composition Competition.

His visionary approach to music also led to his selection as the Commissioned Composer for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico in 2003 and 2010. His compositional prowess was further recognized when he was awarded the 2011 American Prize in Composition (Choral Division) and secured 3rd place in the 2015 American Prize in Conducting. These awards and recognitions reflect not only his talent but also his dedication to his craft.

In addition to his artistic achievements, his professional life includes serving as State Composition Chair for the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico. He was creative and Musical Director for the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra in Show Low, Arizona, from 2015 to 2023. His extensive professional affiliations, including memberships in several notable music organizations, demonstrate his commitment to the broader music community.

His interests extend beyond his professional endeavors. He finds creative satisfaction in hobbies like Star Trek Scale Modeling and Sewing/Costume creation. These hobbies reveal his passion for envisioning, creating, and innovating, paralleling his professional journey in music.

T. Vives resides in White Rock, New Mexico, with his wife Paula, their children Alex and Abby, and a few pets, embodying a life of balance and harmony. His commitment to societal welfare is evident in his regular donations to the NAACP and DNC, underscoring his sense of civic responsibility.
